About the Job
IORA Ecological Solutions is looking for a dynamic and experienced Manager to lead its Carbon Project Development initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end development of carbon projects, ensuring compliance with international standards such as VCS, GS, and GCC. You will lead the development of comprehensive Project Design Documents (PDDs), define emission reduction strategies, and manage stakeholder engagement with government agencies, investors, and local communities.
As a Manager, you will supervise research efforts, analyze project requirements, and provide strategic direction to the team. You will oversee field surveys and validation processes, ensuring that all projects meet regulatory and methodological requirements. Additionally, you will play a key role in expanding IORA’s carbon portfolio by identifying new opportunities, developing funding proposals, and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of AFOLU carbon projects, ensuring alignment with VCS, GS, GCC, and other relevant standards.
- Stay up-to-date with developments in carbon markets, voluntary and compliance carbon mechanisms, and international policies related to carbon emissions reductions, and provide strategic insights to the team.
- Oversee research and analysis on carbon sequestration methodologies, land-use policies, and best practices to guide project development.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, standards, and guidelines throughout the PDD development and project implementation process.
- Supervise the preparation of comprehensive Project Design Documents (PDDs) and technical reports to meet certification requirements.
- Manage relationships with Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) and oversee the validation and verification process.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including project developers, technical experts, and finance professionals, to streamline carbon project development.
- Lead stakeholder engagement with local communities, government agencies, and investors to ensure participatory project implementation and address concerns effectively.
- Represent the organization in high-level meetings, workshops, and conferences to promote project objectives and methodologies.
- Oversee and guide the team in monitoring on-site project activities to ensure compliance with approved methodologies and best practices.
- Ensure effective Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) by reviewing field data, reports, and compliance documents for carbon credit issuance.
- Track and manage project progress, ensuring timely submission of documents and reports to standard bodies and stakeholders.
- Drive the expansion of the organization’s carbon project portfolio by identifying new opportunities, developing concepts, and securing funding.
- Develop and implement strategic partnerships with donors, investors, and key stakeholders to scale AFOLU carbon projects.
- Manage and mentor the project team, providing technical guidance and ensuring capacity building for effective project execution.
- Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and risk assessment for carbon projects to ensure sustainable project implementation.
- Lead fundraising and donor engagement efforts by preparing high-quality proposals and funding applications.
Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies
- Master’s degree in Forestry, environmental science or related fields with at least 5-6 years of relevant work experience
- Proven experience in developing Project Design Documents (PDDs) for carbon projects
- Experience conducting and leading field surveys and visits for data collection and project assessment
- Expertise in carbon market mechanisms and experience working with carbon standards such as the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), or Gold Standard
- Experience in collaborating with stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and investors
- Familiarity with the validation and verification processes of the Carbon project is a plus
- Prior experience in the field of environmental sustainability, carbon management, or related areas would be beneficial.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong research and analytical skills. Willingness to solve research problems with creative thinking. Ability to read and synthesise quantitative and qualitative information quickly and succinctly. Ability to make coherent and strong written arguments advocating for policy outcomes and climate change solutions.
- Proficiency in proposal writing, technical report writing, project documentation and presentation skills. A credible publication record shall be an added advantage.
- Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with team members
