Dr Irina Das Sarkar

Senior Research Associate

Dr Irina Das Sarkar is an ecologist and wildlife biologist with extensive experience in
assessing biodiversity patterns, along with changing environmental gradients and conservation efforts, particularly in Himalayan landscapes. Her core expertise includes community and functional ecology, long-term ecological monitoring, capacity building, and drafting biodiversity management and action plans. She has contributed to the development of state and landscape-level biodiversity management plans, integrating stakeholder participation for aligning grassroots initiatives with national and global sustainability targets. Her research has made significant contributions in the form of scientific and governmental publications, including several spider species new to science and India. She has been a recipient of several grants and awards, including the Summer Fellow Grant of the Indian Academy of Sciences (2016) and the Arachnological Research Fund (2021).
