About the Job
We are looking to hire a self-motivated, enterprising and hardworking individual with a strong background in the areas of climate change adaptation and mitigation for the full-time position of “Research Associate, Agriculture and Climate Change”. The role involves supporting the development, management and implementation of IORA’s projects in the areas of policy design, capacity development, vulnerability assessments, GHG accounting, climate finance and monitoring & evaluation. The job is a good mix of office-based and field work involving multi-stakeholder engagements for translating climate science to on-ground solutions for low carbon development and building climate resilience of communities, businesses and economy.
Responsibilities
- Support implementation of ongoing projects through:
- Research and analysis as per the project scope and activities
- Preparation of deliverables by developing reports, presentations, briefs, etc.
- Management of ongoing projects through stakeholder engagements and tracking timelines and deliverables
- Carrying out field work for primary data collection and stakeholder engagement when needed
- Support in promoting and expanding IORA’s portfolio by:
- Development of new concepts and proposals that capitalise on IORA’s expertise and pave the way for new donor- and/or private sector-funded projects and programmes
- Developing communication products for wider dissemination and public outreach including policy briefs, journal articles, news pieces, project impact stories, blogs, etc.
Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies
- Master’s degree in Climate Science, Public Policy, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Development or related disciplines from a reputed university.
- 1-2 years of experience after Master’s in climate change adaptation/ climate change mitigation/ climate finance related projects. Cross sectoral experience in climate change will be preferred.
- Knowledge of recent developments in national and international climate policy, climate change modelling, GHG inventory preparation, statistical analysis, socio-economic analysis, low carbon development planning, climate adaptation planning and climate finance.
- Field work experience will be preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong research and analytical skills. Willingness to solve research problems with creative thinking. Ability to read and synthesise quantitative and qualitative information quickly and succinctly. Ability to make coherent and strong written arguments advocating for policy outcomes and climate change solutions.
- Proficiency in proposal writing, technical report writing, project documentation and presentation skills. A credible publication record shall be an added advantage.
- Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with team members
