Job Title: GIS Developer

Job Location: New Delhi 

Duration: Full-Time Position

About the Job:

IORA is looking to hire a qualified, self-motivated, enterprising, and hardworking individual adept at application development for the post of GIS Developer. The person should have excellent knowledge of web-coding and programming languages), knowledge of UI and UX, be familiar with a variety of operating systems and platforms, and be able to code functional programs and applications. He/she will work as part of a team and individually with little supervision. The ideal candidate should have an analytical mindset and a keen eye for detail.

The goal is to develop a seamlessly functioning geospatial analytics platform with excellent UI and UX, write “clean” and well-documented code to produce fully functional web applications according to requirements. The work requires a strong understanding of the different computer languages that can be used in application development. Job tasks may include working in teams, testing applications and designing prototype applications. Demonstrated knowledge in the area of technology critical in the integration and development of Mobile Applications, Web Applications and a thorough understanding of coding in JavaScript, Python, HTML, SQL, and CSS. Work involves meeting with users, analysing and defining system needs, developing software programs and applications, and implementing, documenting, and maintaining applications and associated systems.

  4. Sustainable Agriculture: IORA uses multi-disciplinary approaches like LULC mapping, socio-economic surveys and application of market mechanisms to design solutions to benefit small and marginal farmers to develop resilience to climate change.

Academic Background:

A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in computer science / Remote Sensing & GIS  or related fields with a minimum of 2 years of experience in programming/web development.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Develop an effective and user-friendly backend
  2. Collaborate with the team to set specifications for new applications
  3. Design creative prototypes according to specifications
  4. Write high-quality source code to program complete applications within deadlines
  5. Perform unit and integration testing before launch
  6. Conduct functional and non-functional testing
  7. Troubleshoot and debug applications
  8. Evaluate existing applications to reprogram, update and add new features
  9. Develop technical documents and handbooks to accurately represent application design and code
  10. Integrate data input with existing applications
  11. Troubleshoot application errors and problems, research and analyze correction strategies; help with networks and help desk requests as needed
  12. Prioritize tasks, and adhere to timelines and budgets according to scope and schedule
  13. Communicate with project managers and clients clearly and pro-actively, both verbal and written
  14. Analytical thinking and problem solving with strong attention to detail
  15. Organize and prioritize a large work volume
  16. Understand software design and programming principles

Technical Skills Required:

  1. In-depth knowledge of programming for diverse operating systems and platforms using development tools
  2. Understanding of a wide variety of programming languages including JavaScript, Python, HTML, SQL, and CSS
  3. Experience with web-map developing platforms such as Openlayer/ Leaflet/ Geosever/ PostGRES/ Django will be considered as an added advantage.

Job Title: Senior Manager – Forestry and Biodiversity

IORA is looking to hire a self-motivated, enterprising, and hardworking individual with a passion for forestry and conservation for the post of Senior Manager. The role involves assisting in the development and execution of forest conservation projects. This includes eco-restoration, ecological assessments, biodiversity assessment, designing conservation plans, and financial incentive strategies. The job is a good mix of office-based and outdoor work with existing opportunities to work in some of the most diverse forest and biodiversity areas in the country.

  1. Forest restoration assessment and planning
  2. Lead teams in field data collection and assessment of forest biomass, biodiversity, and ecology
  3. Oversee socio-economic data collection
  4. Develop landscape specific conservation strategies and interventions
  5. Collate and analyse data as required
  6. Carry out due diligence of forestry and conservation projects including suitable methodologies, success factors, and pitfalls
  7. Measure carbon content across different landscapes and forests
  8. Engage and coordinate with clients and partners to ensure effective project implementation. This includes developing and delivering presentations and project briefs
  9. Develop and execute multi-stakeholder engagement plans. This will include developing the technical content as well as organising and conducting community stakeholder consultations, government departmental and corporate workshops, conferences, and trainings.
  10. Lead the development of new concepts and proposals that capitalise on IORA’s expertise for greater impact.
  11. Representing IORA and its work at national and regional platforms to foster the development of new and strategic partnerships
  12. Liaise with the communications team to develop products for wider dissemination and public outreach

Desired Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  1. Master’s degree in Forestry or related fields with relevant work experience of atleast 5-8 years.
  2. Knowledge of forestry operations and existing practices
  3. Experience in forestry modelling, forest management planning, and participatory forest dynamics and growth projection.
  4. Ability to lead carbon, biodiversity, and other ecological field studies in the forest (preferably)
  5. Proficiency in report writing and documentation with a credible publication record is desirable
  6. Strong communication skills
  7. Experience working in the field/ provinces
  8. Willingness to learn and explore new experiences
  9. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  10. Ability to work in challenging circumstances
  11. Willingness to solve research problems with creative thinking.
  12. Proficient with MS Excel and Word.
