Job Title: Manager, Climate Change 

Job Location: New Delhi

Duration: Full Time Position

About the Job: 

We are looking to hire a self-motivated, enterprising and hardworking individual with a strong background in the areas of climate change adaptation and mitigation for the full-time position of “Project Manager – Climate Change”. The role involves development, management and implementation of IORA’s Climate Change projects across policy design, capacity development, climate finance solutions,  and monitoring & evaluation. The job is a good mix of office-based and field work involving multi-stakeholder engagements for translating climate science to on-ground solutions for low carbon development and building climate resilience of communities, businesses and economy.

IORA Profile:

IORA Ecological Solutions (IORA) is a young and budding environmental consultancy group with a wide range of services on offer. It is a conservation firm with key expertise in environmental finance and policy. IORA’s portfolio of work falls under the following key sectors:

  1. Climate Change: IORA has developed and implemented climate finance and policy solutions towards climate change mitigation and adaptation at national and sub-national levels. We have also worked with international governments, advising them on GHG inventory systems. 
  2. Forestry & Biodiversity: IORA’s whole systems approach to forestry and biodiversity includes application of spatial technology, forest dependence modelling, vegetation modelling, community engagement, designing robust monitoring strategies, financing and policy design at national and sub-national levels. Efforts towards biodiversity conservation combine biodiversity assessment, valuation, finance and application of market mechanisms.
  3. Remote Sensing & GIS: IORA specializes in the application of geospatial technology in the forestry and land use sectors. We have successfully carried out multi-temporal analysis of land use and land cover change using varied resolution RS datasets, created forest degradation maps, integrated RS analysis with mobile app-based field inventory for forest carbon mapping, created vegetation maps and trained large cadre of forestry professionals in these techniques.
  4. Sustainable Agriculture: IORA uses multi-disciplinary approaches like LULC mapping, socio-economic surveys and application of market mechanisms to design solutions to benefit small and marginal farmers to develop resilience to climate change. 

IORA’s international and trans-disciplinary team works closely with Central and State Governments, Financial Institutions, Private Corporations and Communities to build and scale up conservation solutions. Responsibilities:

  1. Support the implementation of ongoing climate change projects and lead sub-components of these projects through:
    1. Research and Analysis: Design and execution of research and analytical activities as per the project scope and activities 
    2. Client and Project Partners Management: Engage and coordinate with clients and partners of ongoing climate change projects to ensure effective project implementation. This includes developing and delivering presentations and project briefs
    3. Multi-Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and execute multi-stakeholder engagement plans in line with the objectives and tasks of ongoing climate change projects. This will include developing the technical content as well as organising and conducting stakeholder consultations, workshops, conferences and trainings.
    4. Report Writing and Project Deliverables: Develop project reports, presentations, briefs, etc. for ongoing climate change projects. 
  2. Support in promoting and expanding IORA’s climate change portfolio by:
    1. Supporting the development of new concepts and proposals on climate change that capitalise on IORA’s expertise and pave the way for new donor- and/or private sector-funded projects and programmes
    2. Representing IORA and its work at national and regional platforms to foster the development of new and strategic partnerships and business opportunities 
    3. Developing communication products for wider dissemination and public outreach including policy briefs, journal articles, news pieces, project impact stories, etc.

Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies:

  1. Master’s degree in Climate Science, Climate Policy, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management or related disciplines from a reputed university or Ph.D in any of the above mentioned disciplines, with focus on climate change.
  2. 4-6 years of experience after Master’s degree or 1-2 years of experience after Ph.D degree in climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation and climate finance. Cross sectoral experience in climate change will be preferred. Lesser experience may be considered in exceptional cases.
  3. Knowledge of recent developments in national and international climate policy, climate change modelling, GHG inventory preparation, statistical analysis, socio-economic analysis, low carbon development planning, climate adaptation planning and climate finance.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Project planning and execution skills
  6. Strong research and analytical skills. Willingness to solve research problems with creative thinking. Ability to read and synthesise quantitative and qualitative information quickly and succinctly. Ability to make coherent and strong written arguments advocating for policy outcomes and climate change solutions. 
  7. Proficiency in proposal writing, technical report writing, project documentation and presentation skills. A credible publication record shall be an added advantage. 
  8. Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders including government officials, sectoral experts, donor agencies, private sector, civil society institutions and research institutions
  9. Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with team members

  2. Concept & Proposal Development: Support the development of new ideas/concepts and proposals on public finance that capitalise on IORA’s expertise and pave the way for new donor funded projects and programmes. 
  3. Client and Project Partners Management: Engage and coordinate with clients and project partners to ensure effective project implementation. This includes developing and delivering presentations and project briefs
  4. Report Writing and Communication Material: Write research study reports, develop policy briefs / discussion papers and public education material based on the research findings
  5. Multi-Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with various government officials, CSOs and other development partners that are relevant to public finance in India
  6. Consultations & Trainings: Design and organise consultations, panel discussions or roundtables on the topics of research. Develop customised trainings & capacity development programmes related to public finance.
  7. Strategic Partnerships: Representing IORA and its work at national and regional platforms to foster the development of new and strategic partnerships and business opportunities

Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies:

  1. Post Graduate degree in Economics, Finance or related disciplines from a reputed university or Ph.D in any of the above mentioned disciplines. 
  2. 4-6 years of experience after Post Graduation or 2-4 years of experience after Ph.D degree on public finance and allied governance systems. Experience in the area of climate change will be desirable. 
  3. Knowledge of public finance system in India, budgetary analysis, policy research 
  4. Familiarity with functioning and responsibility of institutions at various levels of government, especially the public finance governance system in India
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Ability to design and lead research projects independently
  7. Willingness to travel extensively for implementation of research projects. 
  8. Proficiency in proposal writing, technical report writing, project documentation and presentation skills. A credible publication record shall be an added advantage.

The ideal candidate should possess a track record of generating content that would increase reader engagement. He/she must possess excellent communication skills (written and oral) and must have the ability to use data driven insights to write better material. Must be a self-starter and be committed to meeting tight deadlines. Preference  will be given to those with a background and passion for environment and social sciences.

Key responsibilities:

Support senior team members to edit, proof read reports and briefs

Create content for social media posts, website and other outreach platforms under the tutelage of a senior team member

Writing and editing technical briefs

Desired Qualification, Skills and experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences/ Sciences/ Social Sciences/ Journalism

Expert knowledge of MS office suit

Experience in editing work at senior school/ college/ post graduate level
